Photosynthesis Webquest
Introduction:
Ever wondered why plants are green? What plants need to grow? In the next few minutes you can easily find the answers.
Task:
To get some information about the process of photosynthesis you have to read the following short text. In order to understand the process, you can see an illustrative video. After that you know the photosynthesis quite well, you can learn a cute song about it. Have fun!
Process:
1. Read the following text about photosynthesis!
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a process in which green plants use energy from the sun to transform water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and organic compounds. It is one example of how people and plants are dependent on each other in sustaining life.
Photosynthesis happens when water is absorbed by the roots of green plants and is carried to the leaves by the xylem, and carbon dioxide is obtained from air that enters the leaves through the stomata and diffuses to the cells containing chlorophyll. The green pigment chlorophyll is uniquely capable of converting the active energy of light into a latent form that can be stored (in food) and used when needed.
Photosynthesis provides us with most of the oxygen we need in order to breathe. We, in turn, exhale the carbon dioxide needed by plants. Plants are also crucial to human life because we rely on them as a source of food for ourselves and for the animals that we eat.
2. In order to understand the process watch this video!
3. Fill the following picture with the missing words!
4. Summerise your knowledge! Write 5-10 sentences about the concept of the photosynthesis!
5. Finally listen and learn the following song! Make a group of 4 students, then you have to perform the song !
Evaluation
Satisfactory | Good | Perfect
Task 3 | There are at most 2 incorrect or missing words | There are at most 1 incorrect or missing words | Each words are correct
Task 4 | Missing knowledge | Few missing knowledge | There is no missing knowledge, logical structure
Task 5 | Not everyone knows the song | Almost everyone knows the song | Everybody knows the song. Enjoyable performance
Now you probably learned about the process of photosynthesis. I hope you spent your time pleasantly

Model-based learning and greenhouse effect
Task 2
Greenhhouse effect
Greenhouse effectis a phenomenon when the solar radiation can penetrate to the surface of the Earth but some part of the energy radiated back from the surface can not get out of it because of the Earth’s atmosphere.
The decisive formation of the greenhouse effect when the solar energy became to heat energy due to the reflection. Due to the internal heat energy the inner space come warmer.
Without the greenhouse effect the average temperature of the surface of the Earth would be lower with 30 degrees.
The global warming is the consequence of the greenhouse effect.
Model-based learning and greenhouse effect
Task 4.
Remember when you first heard about the greenhouse effect. How could you imagine it? Without a suitable visual aid it is really hard to understand the essential point of it. Or imagine that you are a teacher, and you want to teach the essential point of greenhouse effect to your learners. In order to clearly understand you need for demonstrational purposes. Model-based learning help little children to pay attention to the study material through the entire lesson. I think the model-based learning is the best for both teachers and learners to achieve great results.
Model-based learning and greenhouse effect
Task 3
A: Make general overview of the issue (corrections to your sketch?)
The greenhouse effect is a main issue nowadays. This simulation can show us how the greenhouse effect changed in the past, and what is the situation nowadays.
B: Do you know enough about the about the atmosphere?
Three main gases in our atmosphere that contribute to the greenhouse effect. These are carbon dioxide, methane, and water.
C: What are the main things affecting to phenomena?
I think the main affecting things of the phenomena is the increasing carbon dioxide emissions from humans. This cause dangerous global warming, and this is threatening our environment.
D: Run the simulations at least when there are: gas concentration is none and lots, 1750, Today, report your observations !
According to my observations greenhouse gas concentration affected the temperature seriously. When I set the gas concentration lower, the average temperature decreased. When I set the gas concentration to a higher level, the average temperature increased.
In 1750 the average temperature was about 14 ˚C due to the greenhouse gas concentrations.
In our days, the average temperature is about 16 ˚C due to the increasing level of carbon dioxide . It means, that the average temperature of the surface of the Earth increased with 2 ˚C since the last 300 years.
This radical changes in temperature is very dangerous, beacause it is leads to global warming.
Model-based learning and greenhouse effect
What kind of models there was mentioned?
In this text 2 types of learning models were described.
- The mental model, and the hyper model. Mental models based on the leaners prior knowledge, and influenced their perceptions of phenomena, and their understanding of information. Mental models are internal representations.
- Hypermodels are conceptual models. These are external representations. When the learners interact with an external experience they construct or revise their mental model.
What’s their role in learning?
These models play an integral role in learning . It is easier to students to learn the curriculum when they get an external confirmation beside their own imaginations. In addition, teachers has easier job to pass their knowledge, if they are able to demonstrate.
